The Royal School for the Deaf Derby is a day and residential special school for pupils aged between 3 and 19. The school needed a new sports flooring solution, that could go over their original vinyl flooring. Sport & Play has provided an excellent service, by providing the best products and services for exactly what the school needed – even after facing some difficulties.

Our Solution:  

The original vinyl flooring needed some TLC. On arrival at the site, our engineers had noticed there was a few damp problems with the vinyl flooring, meaning we had to completely remove the original vinyl – extending the project completion time from 3 weeks, to 8. The extension in project time meant we could order the additional parts to amend the damp issues. Once it had been removed, our engineers also noticed that the concrete subbase had also been affected by the moisture, which meant the 110 polyurethane Pulastic flooring couldn’t be used. After taking some damp readings, we were then able to establish the severity of the dampness. Acting quickly, we requoted the client for a completely different flooring system, which was much more suited for their site. Our client agreed to the Elite Ecomfort system, which has a visqueen membrane layer to hold back any dampness, followed by a foam layer with two sheets of plywood on top – ready for a layer of polyurethane to finish.

The Result:

After conquering the damp, the Pulastic flooring had its lines painted on, as well as the schools logo installed. The school was over the moon with the installation and can now be used and enjoyed by its students.
