Chris was brought up in Leeds and Birmingham. He trained at the Colchester Institute and Newcastle Polytechnic in leisure and recreation studies and started his career as a sports attendant and relief duty manager at Bletchley Leisure Centre in 1983.
Three years later Chris moved to Sussex where he worked for the leisure departments at Wealden, Horsham and Mid Sussex District Councils before moving into the play industry with House of Play in 1998.
As Business Development Manager and then Operations Director of House of Play, Chris worked across the entire UK and Ireland, as well as exploring the European play market in France, Germany, Belgium and Holland.
Chris has been the Chairman of Association of Play Industry’s (API) indoor section for the last two years and was an active member of the executive committee, which represents the play industry as a whole. As a member of the UK delegation for the first European standard for Indoor Play he has attended meetings and interacted with representatives from play providers across Europe for the last three years. Chris is also an Associate member of ISRM.
Chris has two children, Alex and Lucy, and in his spare time has been known to take on acting roles with his local theatre group. However, sport is in his roots, and Chris is a founder member, and now Club Captain, of the Uckfield Anderida Cricket Club, formed in 1986. He is a big Aston Villa fan and in the winter months, manages one of the teams at Maresfield village FC in the Mid Sussex league and assists with the development of young footballers.
